HOW IT
ALL STARTED
It started in a garage off Westheimer Road in Houston, Texas in 2019. Marcus and Derek — two lifelong Texans with backgrounds in military service and emergency response — were frustrated with the gap in the self-defense market. Firearms weren't always practical for everyday carry. Pepper spray felt like a compromise. Tasers were expensive and situational.
They kept coming back to one tool used across cultures for centuries: the whip. Reach. Speed. Deterrence. No ammunition. Always ready. They started prototyping in evenings after their day jobs, testing in Derek's backyard, and iterating for months until the paracord tension, tip weight, and handle grip felt exactly right.
Word spread fast among friends in law enforcement, hiking communities, and the EDC world. By late 2020, TacticalWhip.com was live — and Houston's most underrated self-defense brand was born.

Former U.S. Army infantryman with two tours overseas and a decade in private security. Marcus brings the field-tested discipline behind every product we make. When he says a whip is battle-ready, he means it — literally. He still trains weekly out of a gym in the Heights neighborhood and refuses to carry anything he hasn't personally stress-tested.
Houston-born industrial designer and former EMT first responder. Derek spent years studying how tools fail under pressure — and designing them to never do that. His obsession with material science and ergonomics is the reason our whips feel different from anything else on the market. He's the reason the grip works at 3am in the rain, and the reason it ships looking like a premium product.
A Third Ward native and logistics veteran who joined the team in 2021 after Marcus and Derek realized they were terrible at shipping boxes. Alicia built the fulfillment system from scratch, turned a two-day backlog into same-day dispatch, and is the sole reason your order arrives fast and discreet. She also happens to be the most accurate with the Stinger at the team range days.
